Hole 2
This hole is a long par 5 which can be reached in two, but sometimes only with the help of the wind. The green is wide and shallow and when the hole is into the wind the players must avoid the dreaded 60 metre bunker shot that awaits those who leak the long second shot too far right.
 
Mike Clayton, for Golf Australia, wrote: “The 2nd is a long par five that can be reached but only with the help of the wind. Mind you, there is barely a hole in golf that cannot be reached by the longest hitters if the wind is behind and architects of days past would be astounded to find holes like this are so vulnerable. Strategically the hole is dominated by fairway bunkers guarding the left of the drive and another set of bunkers down the right of the second shot. Those who can stay high on the left half of the fairway with their tee shot avoid having to play over the bunkers further along the hole and the green is wide in the fashion of the 1st hole and controlling the length of the pitch shot to the flag is the key to making a birdie.” |
